Book One: The Last Rising

After paying two millennia’s penance to Osiris, world-weary Phoenix Ice has had enough. Saving souls without any hope for her own redemption isn’t how she imagined spending eternity. Fed up, she decides her next death will be her last. But when she sacrifices her own life for a sexy Texan in a catastrophic plane crash, she has no idea the consequences will be so great…or that she’ll end up back in his life for her next assignment.

Now that Turner Alcott has survived the worst, finding a wife and mother for his son matters more than ever before. When the mysterious Ice comes into his life, Turner knows she’s the one—but love is the last thing Ice wants. If he wants to win her heart, Turner must teach Ice how to forgive herself, and prove that love is the ultimate sacrifice.

Book Two: The Last Awakening

For three hundred years, Arabella’s life has been one meaningless death after another. In a cruel twist of fate, Osiris gifts the phoenix her mortality and long-gone voodoo magic with a warning that she must save her next soul within a week without using magic, or she’ll lose her power forever.

Ex-soldier Greyson Meadows desperately wants to be freed from the nightmares and guilt that haunt him. Confronted by a waif of a woman who forces him to face the truth about his past, he runs fast and hard, fighting the need to prove himself worthy despite his perceived failures.

When Ari becomes the target of her own magical blunder, the weak will find strength and the strong will fall. One will have to give up everything so the other can have peace, but will love’s magic withstand the loss?

Book Three: The Last Beginning

Though she’s always hated being a phoenix, Sadie has to admit immortality has its advantages. She’s seen and done more in the last 150 years than she’d ever dreamed of, but she can’t get past the fact that Osiris has done nothing but manipulate her and her fellow phoenixes.

Or that, when her last incarnation as a phoenix comes to a fiery end, the fire slowly begins to consume her body.

Sun god Osiris is ashamed of his role as ruler of the Underworld, but he unless he can figure out how to save Sadie, that’s exactly where she’s going to end up. Permanently. Terrified he’s going to lose her, he takes her on a hunt for The Book of the Dead, which is the only way he knows he can save her—even if it means she’ll hate him forever.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha - Chelle:

This was a very enjoyable, quick read bundle. I actually read them as standalones, but back-to-back-to-back, and while they can be read out of order, reading them together and in order as they are presented in this Bundle would be my suggested way to enjoy them. :)

Curse of the Phoenix is a collection of three stories about strong, independent, beautiful women that have been made into Phoenix by the god Osiris and charged with saving destined souls by taking their place in death, while atoning for sins made in their previous lives. The world building was intricate and complex, yet beautifully crafted with deep, multi-faceted characters. The individual tales were slightly dark, but flowed with a wonderful tempo and ended with the HEA that we all long for in good paranormal romances.

Each book centered around one of the Phoenix, starting with Ice, followed by Arabella and Sadie, yet each was part of the others story and brought the entire bundle together.

There was a bit of an underlying ‘message’ in each book, as well. I felt that book 1 was full of hope, book 2 was all about forgiving yourself and book 3 showcased how opposites sometimes are the best partnerships. The dialogue was utterly intriguing and I loved the witty banter, the action - while not quite as in your face as urban fantasy - was perfect for the tales as they were told, and there was just enough intrigue to keep you guessing a bit.

Overall I really enjoyed the Curse of the Phoenix bundle. Book #2 was my favorite of the 3, but all of them kept me engaged and wanting more. I most definitely recommend this bundle if you’re looking for an engaging quick read that will allow you to get lost in fantasy if only for just a bit. :)
Sound awesome don’t they!? They are, and I’ve heard from several other Literal Addicts that they thoroughly enjoyed them, as well. Make sure to check them out along with the rest of Rachel’s books!

In celebration of the bundle, I’m offering up a gifted copy to a lucky winner from either Amazon or B&N.

To enter, share about the bundle and/or Rachel wherever you like to share your book love - Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, etc - and then come back HERE and let me know where you shared, along with the URL to your post (if possible) and your email address.

I’ll pick a random winner at the end of the Event period.

Good luck, and as always…. HAPPY READING!!

*My first impression thoughts after reading…
My favorite of the series thus far. A totally different feel but with the same things that make Regina’s COLONY series so unique and captivating, some pretty serious drama, plenty of light-hearted moments, and a great HEA.
—Full review to come

They sound great, don’t they!? Make sure to check the available ones out and keep your eyes open for the new releases, as well.
For the rest of today, let’s see what Regina had to say when I sat down to chat with her…

LITERAL ADDICTION: Hi Regina! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with us. I’m so happy to have you here today!

LITERAL ADDICTION: I always start by getting to know our guest V.I.P author a little bit better…

1) Can you tell us 3 things about yourself – no matter how random - that we couldn’t find out easily on the internet?

1. My first job was as a bagger at a military department store overseas in Germany. I worked for $2/hour. I was twelve years old at the time.
2. I will never own a fur coat.
3. I have tendonitis in my ankles and some days it’s hard for me to walk.

2) What are 2 things that always make you smile, and 2 things that never fail to make you angry?

Smile – 1) Watching my dogs play together, 2) Visiting my Dad.
Angry – 1) Animal cruelty. 2) Someone who is untrained at their job, or just doesn’t care about doing a good job

3) When did you start writing? Can you share with us a bit about your first experience trying to get a manuscript out there?

REGINA: I started almost five years ago. An idea for a paranormal world came to me and I had to write the COLONY series of novels. I took several writing classes from the Writers’ League of Texas to find out how to write/edit/polish a manuscript. One of the instructors suggested I self-publish.

4) Was there anyone (or anything) that was directly involved with your drive to become an author?

REGINA: The drive came within me. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I want to write the best novels I can.

5) If you could spend the day with anyone – alive, dead, fictional, etc – whom would you want to spend it with, and what would you want to do?

REGINA: My mother. She passed away just before I graduated college. I’d like to fill her in on how my life has been.

6) Do you have any interesting writing quirks or a specific routine you must follow to begin your writing process?

REGINA: I write on the couch with my computer on a desk pillow. Before I start writing I have to take off my glasses and get mauled by my two puppies for kisses. I then wipe off their saliva from my face, put my glasses back on, and begin writing.

7) If we were to hop in your car or pick up your MP3 player and turn it on, what do you think we’d be most likely to hear?

REGINA: Right now it’d be a book recording of a novel from Sherrilyn Kenyon.

8) Was there any specific inspiration behind the creation of the COLONY series?

REGINA: The series, no. The characters? Yes. Each one has specific attributes of me within them.

9) How many books do you ultimately have planned for the series?

REGINA: Well over twenty.

10) What types of scenes do you enjoy writing the most (love, action, dialogue, etc) and why?

REGINA: I like writing what I call the “puzzle pieces.” I like mentioning something early in the novel and then having whatever it was realized later in the book. I also like putting hooks into a book and having the resolution of it in another book. For example, in novel #3 (Enduring Service) reference is made to how the character Jackie first sees the vampires feed themselves. You do not actually see that scene until a novella featuring her as the heroine (book #3.5 “William’s Tale). If you never read “William’s Tale” you do not lose any value from “Enduring Service.” But, if you read “William’s Tale” you get more out of the scene because you were told about it ahead of time. I hope that makes sense.

11) What was the most challenging thing about creating the series?

REGINA: Having enough time to write all the books I want to write.

12) Has there been a specific moment in your career thus far that you are particularly proud of?

REGINA: I spoke at the Writers League of Texas in February about how to write romance novels.

13) What’s up next for Regina Morris? Anything else in the works – or available - that you can share with us?

“William’s Tale” is out June 30th.
“Reliant Service” is out in September.
“Colony Christmas” is out in December.

14) Anything else coming up that you want to be sure your readers and fans know about – online events, signings, conventions, etc?

REGINA: I’ll be at the RWA convention in San Antonio next month.

15) Is there anything special you’d like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

REGINA: Thank you for taking the time to read through this interview. :-)
My writing has been compared to Kerrelyn Sparks, Lynsay Sands and JR Ward, so if you enjoy their novels please try out my series. The Paranormal Romance Guild compared my suspense writing to Tom Clancy, so if you like suspense please take a look at my novels.

LITERAL ADDICTION: Regina, thank you SO much for being with us today. We really hope that we’ve turned some new readers on to your work, and we hope that people will go out, pick up, and love the COLONY novels.

We’re offering up winners choice of COLONY eBook from either Amazon or B&N to a lucky winner.

To enter, share about the COLONY series and Regina wherever you love to share your book love - Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, etc - and then come back HERE and tell me where you shared with a URL (if possible) along with your email address and desired book of the series should you win.

I’ll pick a winner at the end of the Event period and be in touch.
Good luck, and as always… HAPPY READING!

[Archive] Series Spotlight, Reviews, and Giveaway for Dean Koontz_7.1.14

Series Spotlight, Reviews, and Giveaway

Dean Koontz, The Neighbor & The City

Hey gang,

LITERAL ADDICTION is very happy to be promoting for the amazing Dean Koontz again today!

When he was a senior in college, Dean Koontz won an Atlantic Monthly fiction competition and has been writing ever since. His books are published in 38 languages and he has sold over 450 million copies to date.

Fourteen of his novels have risen to number one on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list (One Door Away From Heaven, From the Corner of His Eye, Midnight, Cold Fire, The Bad Place, Hideaway, Dragon Tears, Intensity, Sole Survivor,The Husband, Odd Hours, Relentless, What the Night Knows, and 77 Shadow Street), making him one of only a dozen writers ever to have achieved that milestone. Sixteen of his books have risen to the number one position in paperback. His books have also been major bestsellers in countries as diverse as Japan and Sweden.

The New York Times has called his writing “psychologically complex, masterly and satisfying.” The New Orleans Times-Picayune said Koontz is, “at times lyrical without ever being naive or romantic. [He creates] a grotesque world, much like that of Flannery O’Conner or Walker Percy … scary, worthwhile reading.” Rolling Stone has hailed him as “America’s most popular suspense novelist.”

Dean Koontz was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University), and his first job after graduation was with the Appalachian Poverty Program, where he was expected to counsel and tutor underprivileged children on a one-to-one basis. His first day on the job, he discovered that the previous occupier of his position had been beaten up by the very kids he had been trying to help and had landed in the hospital for several weeks. The following year was filled with challenge but also tension, and Koontz was more highly motivated than ever to build a career as a writer. He wrote nights and weekends, which he continued to do after leaving the poverty program and going to work as an English teacher in a suburban school district outside Harrisburg. After a year and a half in that position, his wife, Gerda, made him an offer he couldn’t refuse: “I’ll support you for five years,” she said, “and if you can’t make it as a writer in that time, you’ll never make it.” By the end of those five years, Gerda had quit her job to run the business end of her husband’s writing career.

Dean Koontz lives in Southern California with his wife, Gerda, their golden retriever, Anna, and the enduring spirit of their golden, Trixie.

Keep up with Dean online at his Website, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on GoodReads.

Dean is my absolute favorite author of all time behind Poe, so I highly suggest you check out his entire backlist, but for today, I’m helping promote his new novel, The City, and its prequel The Neighbor…

Every city has its wonders and mysteries. For the Pomerantz family, the most disturbing mystery at the moment is the identity and the intentions of their new neighbor, in this eBook original short story—a prequel to The City, the gripping and moving new novel by Dean Koontz.

The year is 1967. Malcolm Pomerantz is twelve, geeky and socially awkward, while his seriously bright sister, Amalia, is spirited and beautiful. Each is the other’s best friend, united by a boundless interest in the world beyond their dysfunctional parents’ unhappy home. But even the troubled Pomerantz household will seem to be a haven compared to the house next door, after an enigmatic and very secretive new neighbor takes up residence in the darkest hours of the night.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha - Chelle:

—Actual rating 4.5 Skulls

What a great little teaser into the world of The City (coming 7/1).

In true Dean Koontz fashion, The Neighbor is a beautifully written glimpse into some of the characters and the world that will make up The City and will make the reader want the full length book immediately.

Written in first person from Malcolm’s point of view, it outlines a preternaturally charged event between him and his sister, and the neighborhood ghost. It was chilling, gripping, and emotionally charged. And honestly, it was chilling more for the fact of the evil that exists within human nature that was explored, than for the supernatural elements that were introduced.

This was a quick read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see what Dean has in store for us fans in The City. It seems like it’ll be different than anything he’s written, and I, as a diehard fan, look forward to that with each new Dean Koontz book I pick up and am amazed every single time that he can continue to do it. I always know it’s going to be a unique and precious gift from the mind of a true master. :)

Just released today - 7/1/14!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz is at the peak of his acclaimed powers with this major new novel.

The city changed my life and showed me that the world is deeply mysterious. I need to tell you about her and some terrible things and wonderful things and amazing things that happened … and how I am still haunted by them. Including one night when I died and woke and lived again.

Here is the riveting, soul-stirring story of Jonah Kirk, son of an exceptional singer, grandson of a formidable “piano man,” a musical prodigy beginning to explore his own gifts when he crosses a group of extremely dangerous people, with shattering consequences. Set in a more innocent time not so long ago, The City encompasses a lifetime but unfolds over three extraordinary, heart-racing years of tribulation and triumph, in which Jonah first grasps the electrifying power of music and art, of enduring friendship, of everyday heroes.

The unforgettable saga of a young man coming of age within a remarkable family, and a shimmering portrait of the world that shaped him, The City is a novel that speaks to everyone, a dazzling realization of the evergreen dreams we all share. Brilliantly illumined by magic dark and light, it’s a place where enchantment and malice entwine, courage and honor are found in the most unexpected quarters, and the way forward lies buried deep inside the heart.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’S Pack Alpha - Chelle:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

I am a diehard Dean Koontz fan. Outside of Poe, I would read anything Dean writes - and have - and while The City was definitely not my favorite Koontz, I still felt it deep, riveting & powerful all the same… Would I have given it a 3-3.5 for a new-to-me author, maybe, but the beautiful writing style was enough to earn that extra 1/2 skull for me personally.

I actually started out this new journey by reading The Neighbor, the prequel novella to The City, and I absolutely loved it. After completion of that, I was chomping at the bit to get to The City. When I started, I was immediately reminded why I love Koontz. Everything he writes is so different, but it all has this magical lyrical quality that draws me in. The City was no different in that regard, but it was a much slower paced novel for Koontz. There were no big crashing moments, no huge surprises, but to me it still felt powerful.

Told from the POV of the character Jonah Kirk as a narrative of his youth, it is said up front that the story wouldn’t necessarily be entirely cohesive. In order to properly portray the ‘tale’ as Jonah saw it, he had to skip around. That statement was true, but I still found it compelling the way it was told. I can see some readers not liking that, however, and I think it did add to the slightly lagging pace, but I was still compelled to continue on.

As usual, Koontz’s protagonists are willful and painted with broad strokes. They’re well rounded and just special enough to make things interesting. What I sort of missed with The City was Koontz’s despicable, deplorable, and utterly hate-worthy big bads. In this case it was Jonah’s weak-willed dad, a semi-crazy yet utterly enchanting girl, an X-Files loving building super, and a professor, and while it was interesting how they all ended up playing into one another’s schemes, it just wasn’t the usual gasp-worthy antagonists I’ve grown to know and love from Koontz.

Bottom line, I enjoyed it. As a Koontz fan I’m glad I read it, and there were things that were utterly beautiful about it. Is it a Koontz like some of the others that I would read 2, 3+ times, no. Would I recommend it to first time Koontz readers, probably not. Do I think that there will be a subset of readers who will absolutely adore this book, yes. It’s not one of his fast paced, adrenaline pumped, nail-biter thrill rides, but it was, as I said, a lyrical, deep, and riveting read.

Spotlight, Review, Interview, CMC15 Promo and Giveaway

Molly Harper

Hi everyone, LITERAL ADDICTION is thrilled to have Molly Harper back with us today!

When Molly Harper was eight years old, she set up a “writing office” in her parents’ living room, complete with an old manual typewriter and a toy phone. And she (very slowly) pecked out the story of her third-grade class taking a trip around the world and losing a kid in each city. She had a dark sense of humor even then.

When Molly was considerably older, she headed for Western Kentucky University, where she majored in print journalism. After graduation, she landed a job with The Paducah Sun and married her high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. After six years at the newspaper, Molly took a more family-friendly secretarial position at a local church office.

Her husband worked nights and Molly was alone with their small child in the “The Apartment of Lost Souls.” A big fan of vampire movies and TV shows, she decided to write a vampire romance novel. Molly created Jane Jameson, a bit of an accidental loser. Jane is single, almost 30, and a librarian working in Half-Moon Hollow, Ky. She has become a permanent fixture on her Mama’s prayer list. And despite the fact that she’s pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. Jane drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer and shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire. The three-book JANE JAMESON series–which includes Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs, Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men and Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever—was released in 2009. A fourth and final installment, Nice Girls Don’t Bite Their Neighbors, was released in 2012.

Molly continues stories in the Jane Jameson universe through her HALF-MOON HOLLOW series, Driving Mr. Dead, The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires, Undead Sublet, and A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses. Undead Sublet is a short story in The Undead in My Bed anthology. A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses was released in June 2013.

Molly has been updating her popular NAKED WEREWOLF romance series in 2013. How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf was originally released in February 2011, quickly followed by The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf. A third installment, How to Run With a Naked Werewolf, was released on 12/31/13.

Molly also launched her first-ever contemporary romance series, BLUEGRASS, with My Bluegrass Baby in December 2012. Rhythm and Bluegrass was subsequently released in October 2013.

Molly’s books are published by Pocket Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. They are available in print, as e-books and audio books at major book stores and on Amazon. Molly is a native of Kentucky. She lives in Paducah with her husband and children.

You can keep up with Molly online at her Website, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on GoodReads.

For those of you new to Molly’s work, we highly suggest that you check out her entire backlist, but for today, we’re going to spotlight her new book, Better Homes and Hauntings…

Author of the beloved Half Moon Hollow series of vampire romances (Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs), Molly Harper has created a standalone paranormal romance in which a dilapidated haunted house could bring star-crossed lovers together—if it doesn’t kill them first!

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate—he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in nineteenth-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

But Nina shows no signs of being scared away, even as she experiences some unnerving apparitions herself. And as the two of them work closely together to restore the mansion’s faded glory, Deacon realizes that he’s found someone who doesn’t seem to like his fortune more than himself—while Nina may have finally found the one man she can trust with her bruised and battered heart.

But something on the island doesn’t believe in true love…and if Nina and Deacon can’t figure out how to put these angry spirits to rest, their own love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Our review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha & Vivacious Valkyrie – Chelle & Marta:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

We really enjoyed this! Light-hearted, sarcastic, and witty, with an intriguing para-mystery holding it all together, and different than the ‘normal’ paranormals out there. We really enjoyed the concept, the characters, and the plot.

A haunted house on an island, a family under a curse and a woman with a vengeful ex, now there’s a unique plot! I won’t go into too much detail as I think half the fun of this book was getting to know the characters and all their little quirks but I will say that for me Nina stood out as such a likeable heroine. She’s rebuilding her life and trying to get her gardening business on a firm footing so the idea of working on such an ambitious project is taylor made for her. Oh and obviously the fact that the owner of the island is smoking hot doesn’t hurt at all! The unfortunate thing is though that the rumours of the house being haunted might just not be rumours. There’s definitely something not quite right on the island but just how bad can it get!

Everything involved with the enjoyment of this book added up to make this a very entertaining read. While both of us did see the end coming, it was nevertheless a lovely conclusion. A haunted house and ghosts may not sound like the ideal base for a romance but this book utterly satisfies. Light and full of interesting characters we will both definitely be reading more from this author.

Sounds awesome, yes!!? Make sure to check it out.
For the rest of today, let’s see what Molly had to say when I sat down to chat with her.

Chelle - LITERAL ADDICTION: Hi Molly! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to drop by and spend some time with me, especially right after a release. I’m so happy to have you here! It was so much fun with you at Coastal Magic this last year. I’m so happy I got a chance to meet you!

Molly: I had so much fun at the conference. Speed dating with bloggers was hilarious.

LITERAL ADDICTION: I always start by getting to know our guest V.I.P author a little bit better…

1): Can you tell us 3 things about yourself – no matter how random - that we couldn’t find out easily on the internet?

Molly: I am a little obsessed with sushi, as in, wanting it at least twice a week. I could eat dragon rolls every day. And if I don’t get my daily recommended allowance of seaweed and rice, I get sort of cranky.
I swore off binge-watching entire seasons of TV shows when a Criminal Minds marathon convinced me that everybody was out to murder me.
(As a TV cop procedural aside, I have an oddly specific crush on Christopher Meloni, but only when he’s NOT playing Elliot Stabler.)
I started studying martial arts about a year ago. I started with Brazilian jiu jitsu and recently earned my yellow belt in karate. So I have the fighting skills of your average seven year old.

2) What are 2 things that always make you smile, and 2 things that never fail to piss you off?

Molly: Always hilarious:
My husband being surprised by the spiciness of the salsa at our favorite Mexican restaurant EVERY TIME he eats it. And then watching him dab his sweaty forehead with a napkin.
My son’s choice in clothing combinations.

Pisses me off:
People who answer their cell phones during funerals.
Adults who pull those stupid “got your nose” tricks on my daughter and then seem offended when she doesn’t laugh.

3) When did you start writing? Can you share with us a bit about your first experience trying to get a manuscript out there?

Molly: When I was 22, I wrote a western historical. It was horrible. I used every terrible story cliché available. It never got representation. If there is a good and merciful high power, it will never see the light of day.
But the experience did teach me about the process of getting an agent. I learned how to use agentquery.com and how to perfect a query letter. And when I started submitting NICE GIRLS DON’T HAVE FANGS for representation, I was used to receiving rejections, so it wasn’t so daunting.

4) Was there anyone (or anything) that was directly involved with your drive to become an author?

Molly: I had some wonderful English teachers in high school. In ninth grade, Mr. Werner asked us to write an introductory essay so he knew something about us as the year started. I wrote about dinner table debates with my dad. Mr. Werner loved mine and had me read it aloud to the class, which was something I’d never done before.
Mr. Werner told me I had a unique voice, like Erma Bombeck. And once I looked Erma Bombeck up in the library and realized he’d paid me a compliment, I started thinking about writing as a possible career. I’d always written stories, but it never occurred to me that I could be a writer. There weren’t many published authors from Paducah, Ky.
I read more of Bombeck’s essays and looked into degree programs that would help pursue a career as a newspaper reporter. I ended up getting a degree in print journalism and writing my own humor column for my local paper for six years.
Throughout high school, that little spark of writer’s hope was encouraged by Mr. Werner, Mr. Toy, Mrs. Rafferty and Mrs. Campbell – awesome English teachers who put up with a considerable amount of teenage smartassery to help me find my writing voice. I still live in the small town where I grew up. Every once in a while I see them, and I’m sure to thank them and tell them what a profound influence they’ve had on my life.

5) If you could spend the day with anyone – alive, dead, fictional, etc – whom would you want to spend it with, and what would you want to do?

Molly: I’ve made my crush on Christopher Meloni pretty clear. And never you mind what we would do.

6) Do you have any interesting writing quirks or a specific routine you must follow to begin your writing process?

Molly: I have to have Perrier. Up until December 2013, I was a 5-6 Coke a day drinker. I went on a pretty serious diet and exercise program, and the first thing I gave up first was sodas. So I started drinking bubbly water like it was going out of style. And I have playlists set up for different series that I work on. For instance, I have a “vampire” playlist for my Half-Moon Hollow books, with lots of Pink and Kelly Clarkson. I have to have that music or if I’m picturing a specific actor as my hero, I’ll watch movies with that actor in them. Or at least, that’s the excuse I used to watch Tom Hardy movies over and over while writing A WITCH’S HANDBOOK OF KISSES AND CURSES.

7) If we were to hop in your car or pick up your MP3 player and turn it on, what do you think we’d be most likely to hear?

Molly: My playlists are so random, you’d probably think I had multiple personality disorder. I’ve got everything from Enya to Eminem. I listen to a lot of ES Posthumous, Florence + The Machine, and embarrassing amount of dubstep.

8) Was there any specific inspiration behind the creation of Better Homes and Hauntings?

Molly: I love haunted house stories, but the reason behind the hauntings are rarely complex or scary enough to satisfy me. I wanted to write the biggest, best haunted house story I could manage, with a backstory that suited me. I hope I accomplished it.

9) I know that you have another book slated for this fall, the next in the BLUEGRASS series, can you tell us a little bit more about that?

Molly: Kelsey Wade, assistant extraordinaire to the staff at the Kentucky Commission on Tourism is known for having everything under control. So it’s not surprising that she and her boss, Sadie, have everything planned to the second for the office winter retreat. But there are things even Kelsey can’t micromanage.
An unprecedented snowstorm smothers half of Kentucky and knocks out the power, closes the roads, and generally shuts down the state. Luckily, the lodge has working fireplaces and enough food to keep the staff from turning on each other like something out of The Shining. Kelsey wouldn’t mind being stuck inside if it wasn’t for the tension with her not-so-secret crush, Charlie, the office’s statistician. But handsome Ranger Luke, the lodge’s only employee on hand, is there to take Kelsey’s mind off her discomfort.
Even though this weekend is supposed to be a planning session for KCT, Kelsey can’t help her mind from wandering and finds herself conflicted over Luke and Charlie. Someone’s love will keep her warm, but whose will it be?
SNOW FALLING ON BLUEGRASS was the idea that got the series started. In January 2009, there was a huge icestorm that took out power to thousands of homes in the southeast. My cell phone was working, but the only people I could call lived outside of Kentucky, meaning my agent and editor. I was trapped in my inlaws house, sleeping on a mattress in front of their fireplace with my infant son and toddler daughter. I called my New York contacts just to stay sane and assure myself that there was a world out there with electricity and modern conveniences.
My agent, Stephany, was fascinated by my tales of cold and sleep depravation. In fact, she finds most of my stories about Kentucky bizarrely compelling. She suggested I write a contemporary series exploring the weird quirks of my home state, especially the ice storm episode. MY BLUEGRASS BABY was released in 2012, followed RHTYHM AND BLUEGRASS.

10) What types of scenes do you enjoy writing the most (love, action, dialogue, etc) and why?

Molly: Dialogue. I have a strong ear for funny conversation, especially big group scenes with lots of characters. Something about the conversation bouncing between all of those people really clicks in my head. It’s so much fun.

11) What was the most challenging thing about creating Better Homes and Hauntings?

Molly: This was the first story I’ve ever written with more than one full love story. Besides Deacon and Nina, there’s a secondary love story between Deacon’s friend and an organizational expert brought in to clean and organize the house. Timing the arc of those two relationships was very challenging.

12) Has there been a specific moment in your career thus far that you are particularly proud of?

Molly: Receiving emails from people who tell me that my books helped them get through chemotherapy, grief, divorce, surgery and other ordeals. I know that my stories aren’t going to teach people any great life lessons, but I can make them laugh and forget their problems for a while. Knowing I’ve made a difference for someone makes me very happy.

13) Anything else in the works for Molly Harper outside of keeping sales going on your existing series and getting the new book into our hot little hands? Anthologies, compilations, etc…

Molly: I will be writing more Half-Moon Hollow spin-offs, including a full novel exploring the romance for Gigi started in I’M DREAMING OF AN UNDEAD CHRISTMAS. THE DANGERS OF DATING A REBOUND VAMPIRE will be released next year.

14) Is there anything special you’d like to say to your readers while I have you here today?

Molly: If you enjoy audiobooks, BETTER HOMES AND HAUNTINGS will be released by Audible on the same day that it is released in print and ebook.
Also, my Half-Moon Hollow Christmas short story, I’M DREAMING OF AN UNDEAD CHRISTMAS, will be available in ebook on November 3, 2014.
And third book in the Bluegrass contemporary series, SNOW FALLING ON BLUEGRASS, will be released on September 22.

LITERAL ADDICTION: Molly, thank you SO much again for being with us today. I really hope that I’ve turned some new readers on to your work, and I hope that people will go out, pick up, and love Better Homes & Hauntings!

With her blue-black hair and striking green eyes, Cailin Jamenson is the epitome of beauty and the exemplar of strength. She has fought the enforced boundaries of being the lone Jamenson daughter and Redwood Pack princess, but it is the potential future with the dark wolf in her path that threatens everything she thought she desired.

Logan Anderson’s own darkness provided the reasoning for his abandonment of his former Pack, the Talons. Now, newly accepted into the Redwood Pack, this jade-eyed wolf and all she represents could be his own undoing.

In this final installment of the Redwood Pack, unimaginable tragedy strikes, and the two wolves who have fought the longest for their independence now face the uncertainty of fate and the epic battle that could end the war… and their lives.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Bewitching Bella - Charity:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

How am I supposed to write this review, it’s like saying goodbye all over again to my beloved Redwoods, the first time being when I actually read Fighting Fate. So with tissues ready I will do my best to give this review my all.

Cailin was an ever present character throughout every novel and novella in this series. Always there fighting alongside each of her brothers with a fierce passion for her family and her pack. Never knowing where her duties lay within the pack, she has no real “gifts” like her brothers; she not only fights for a place to fit in but for her freedom from fate.

Logan has finally found a home, not one that he wants but one that makes his sister and nephew happy and that’s all he has ever wanted until he laid eyes on the Redwood Princess. Now with a renewed passion for life he is willing to lay his own down to save his new pack.

Sadly, I knew that there was going to be a devastating twist to this story with the end of this series coming near, I was prepared for it. It was needed in order for the Jamenson’s to fight till the death but even with knowing it was coming I was shaking with dread as I read word after word that broke my heart.

Each book in this series lead us closer and closer to the end and each Jamenson was instrumental in the end of the “big bad” but it’s Cailin and Logan who fulfill the prophecy and deliver the final blow and as always they did it in Jamenson fashion. With passion and love they face death and fate alongside their Pack. And I for one could not be happier with the ending.

Again I thought I was prepared for this book but I was nowhere near ready for it all to end but it did and through my tears, I couldn’t help but finally breathe a sigh of relief that even though my beloved Redwoods were all done telling their stories, they could finally live in a peace they hadn’t known for many years. And that made it all worth it.

To my beloved Carrie Ann, this may be the end (for now) of the family that rocketed your career but you have to know that as a reader I am so happy that throughout this series I was able to see you grow as a writer and you did so with beauty and grace. Thank you for sharing your Redwoods with us and allowing me to be a part of each and every book.

Loving the Omega

COMING 7/15/14!

*Add to your GoodReads Shelf

Maddox Jamenson almost lost his mate before he knew she existed, but his life is now exactly how he’d dreamed it. The war with the Centrals is over, and his family is healing one day at a time. Ellie is reveling in the simple perfection that is her life and family now, but that doesn’t mean she can shed the self-doubts and concerns that come with being a new mother, mate, and Redwood.

When a disturbance in their quiet life threatens to ruin everything they’ve fought for, Maddox and Ellie will have to learn not only to rely on each other more than ever, but find within themselves the power to forgive.
Author’s Note: This is a novella set after book 7 to give you a taste of Maddox and Ellie. It is best that you have already immersed yourselves in the Redwood Pack world, however even new readers will enjoy a glimpse of one of the Redwood’s favorite couples.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Bewitching Bella - Charity:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

This Novella was way too short and I wanted so much more but as a long time Redwood fan how could I not want more, but it did what it was suppose to, give us a taste of Maddox and Ellie and lead us into what Carrie Ann has planned for this world.

Maddox and Ellie have settled into a routine and are finding their peace after the war with the Centrals has finally ended, but their self doubt is still crippling. I love how we get a look into one of my favorite couples and how they are coping and it hurt to see that they weren’t doing as well as I had hoped but after reading further, I understood why.

When the one thing keeping them going gets “taken”, their world is on the edge of shattering all over again. BUT WAIT…..things are not always as they seem!

Carrie Ann has big plans for the world she has created within the Redwood Series and Loving the Omega just helps to open up her readers and give us a taste of the possibilities of where it can be taken.

I give Loving the Omega 4 out of 5 Stars and strongly suggest that readers immerse themselves within the Redwood Series from the beginning.

In celebration of the finale of the REDWOOD PACK, I’m offering up winner’s choice of full length eBook in the series from either Amazon or B&N and some Carrie Ann Ryan swag (IF the winner is a US Resident. International winners will get their choice of full-length & novella eBooks [substitute for the swag & shipping]).

To enter share on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc about the REDWOOD PACK and comment HERE with a URL to your post, your email address and your book of choice for the contest. I’ll check the posts and pick a random winner at the end of the Event.

Good luck, and as always… HAPPY READING!

[Archive] Series Spotlight, Reviews, and Giveaway for J.T Geissinger_6.24.14

Series Spotlight, Reviews, and Giveaway

J.T Geissinger

LITERAL ADDICTION is very happy to be promoting for the wonderfully talented J.T Geissinger again today!

A life-long lover of reading and a self-professed “book addict,” J.T. Geissinger didn’t realize her dream of writing a novel until a milestone birthday forced her to take stock of her goals in life. Always believing the right time to commit to putting pen to paper would magically announce itself, it took waking up one cold January morning with a shiny new zero as the second number in her age to kick start her determination.

Starting on that very day, she wrote what would become Shadow’s Edge in a little over four months and submitted it to several literary agents. Nothing happened. Thinking that was the end of that but by no means willing to give up on her dreams of being published, she began work on a second manuscript.

Then, during a trip to Italy in honor of their 10th wedding anniversary and the honeymoon she and her husband never took, she received an email that would change her life. It was from an agent, Marlene Stringer of Stringer Literary, and it contained the three words every aspiring author longs to hear: “I loved it.”

Marlene sold the manuscript, initially titled The Skinwalker’s Daughter, to Montlake Romance who published it six months later. Hitting the #1 Amazon bestseller lists for Fantasy Romance in both the US and the UK within weeks of publication, Shadow’s Edge is the culmination of the refusal to give up (some would say grow up) with the staunch belief that all good things come to those who wait…and sometimes to those who wait longest.

J.T is the proud creator of the NIGHT PROWLER series.

You can keep up with J.T and all things NIGHT PROWLER online at her Website, on Facebook, on Twitter, and on GoodReads.

For readers new to J.T’s work, here is all of the information you’ll need to get caught up and introduce you to the series’ new release, Darkness Bound…

SEDUCTION…Demetrius is haunted by the memory of the woman he once loved. He will risk everything to save her from the killers on her tail…and convince her, before the ancient walls between two worlds crumble, that only together can they defeat their real enemy, a brilliant, cunning traitor far more deadly than either of them can guess.

As the danger around them grows closer, Jack and Hawk’s forbidden passion may build a bridge between two ancient enemies—or cost them both their lives.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha - Chelle:
*Copy gifted in exchange for an honest review

J.T Geissinger has a sensual quality to her work. Not the content - though that, at times, can be quite sexy! - but the silken prose. It flows with a harmony that is impossible not to be swept up in and settles in your brain like the most memorable of compositions. There’s a reason J.T is an award winning author, and reading the NIGHT PROWLER novels, for me, is always a highly anticipated and thoroughly enjoyable treat and reminiscent of the some of the best movies I’ve sat down to enjoy over the years.

Like all of the NIGHT PROWLER books, Darkness Bound grabs your attention immediately. Starting out like the best action movie where a ‘call to arms’ state of the union address is being made, we’re introduced to investigative reporter Jacqueline Dolan and her beliefs via a snippet from her “Enemy Among Us” article. Snap to the rainforests, where Hawk, the brother of the current Alpha there, is tasked with teaching the prejudiced woman a lesson she won’t soon forget and coercing her into writing a retraction…

The couple’s initial meeting was hilarious, super sexy, and the start of something way bigger than either of them would have ever anticipated. When Hawk finally gets Jack back to the jungle and the rest of the tribe, they’re embroiled in tons of Colony politics and there was surprise after surprise.

There were things I adored about Jack and Hawk’s journey, there were things I absolutely hated (I can’t tell you what they were though, because it’s a big spoiler to the plot), but one thing remained a constant… I was absolutely glued to the page every step of the way and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Action, intrigue, and romance around ever turn, peppered by character development of past series characters, a great leading couple, an expansion of the plot arc of the series in general that literally made me gasp, and a set up for what looks to be one of the most thrilling installments of the series yet in Into Darkness coming in the Fall.

I highly recommend the entire NIGHT PROWLER series to al Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers and cannot wait to see what J.T has in store for us next. I will admit, there were things about the last book that made me a bit afraid that the series was hitting its plateau, but Darkness Bound gave me confidence that there is PLENTY more to tell with these characters and this story, and I cannot wait to see what’s next.

Are you intrigued? You should be! The books come highly recommended and we suggest that you get them on your TBR Lists immediately and find them from your favorite bookseller as soon as you can. They’re sensual, edgy and action-packed; definite ‘must reads’ for all paranormal romance lovers!

J.T. is giving away the following prizes at the end of this Event:

GRAND PRIZE: $25 Amazon GiftCard

2 RUNNERS-UP: will EACH receive a signed paperback of Darkness Bound

To enter, find the Rafflecopter widget for the Event on our Book Blasts & More page during the Event period, follow the directions, take action, and mark as ‘Done’.

Good luck, and as always… HAPPY READING!!

About Me

Original Author Event posts are done on the website itself each day of an Event and are much more aesthetically pleasing than the archives here.
The website should be used for first view access, but if you missed the website post on any given Event date, please use this blog to catch up on the content if not the over-all experience, as each post will be archived the following date and direct URL links will be added to the website itself.
